For men with prostate cancer or women with or at risk for breast cancer, hormone therapy is often an option. Hormones that are produced naturally in the body can promote growth of cancerous cells. Hormone blockers can be used as treatment for certain types of breast cancer and prostate cancer, or as an adjuvant therapy (to help prevent tumors from coming back).
Medical oncologists at Akron General work with patients depending on their individual health history and risk and/or diagnosis and stage to determine if hormone therapy is the right for them. If you have cancer, you should discuss this option with your medical oncologist.
