About the Clerkship

  • Location: Cleveland Clinic Akron General – Akron, OH
  • Duration: 4 weeks
  • Maximum Number of Students Per Rotation: 3

Rotation Description

This 4-week rotation is intended for students interested in point-of-care ultrasound, with a focus on Emergency Medicine. It is a hybrid rotation, with both clinical shifts and scanning shifts in the Emergency Department (ED). Clinical shifts will be nine-hour shifts helping evaluate and treat patients in the ED with an ultrasound focus; students have had opportunities to assist and perform ultrasound-guided procedures including nerve blocks. Education will be with a robust online curriculum as well as in-person teaching. Scanning shifts will be with attendings and sometimes residents. Educational ultrasounds will be performed in the ED on patients and other learners. Multiple stimulators will be used including nerve block, SonoSim and central line simulators. There will be opportunities to utilize an array of ultrasound transducers in our ED: curvilinear, linear, phased array, hockey stick, microconvex and endocavitary probes.
