Our medical and surgical specialists use the latest diagnostic technology to evaluate your injury and develop a specialized care plan to get you back to your pre-injury performance as quickly as possible.
Primary Care Sports Health – Athletes have special needs. Primary care sports health physicians specialize in the nonoperative treatment of medical conditions you may face, including:
- Acute injuries (sprains; knee, shoulder or other joint injuries; fractures; head injuries)
- Overuse injuries
- Sports-related concussion or head trauma
- Management of chronic medical conditions for the athlete
About 90 percent of all sports injuries are treated non-surgically. But when surgery is needed, our primary care sports physicians collaborate with our orthopaedic surgery specialists to assist with either overuse or traumatic injuries. Our orthopaedic surgeons use minimally invasive techniques such as arthroscopic surgery whenever possible to minimize pain, scarring and recovery time. Our Sports Health surgical treatment options include:
- Complex shoulder and knee revision surgery
- Torn ligaments and tendons
- Broken bones
- Damaged cartilage
- Arthritis and other degenerative conditions
Our surgeons use minimally invasive techniques (such as arthroscopic surgery) whenever possible to minimize pain, scarring and recovery time.
Cleveland Clinic Florida’s joint preservation program offers alternative treatment modalities for sports injuries and chronic joint pain without the use of surgery. These non-invasive treatments are designed to reduce pain and improve joint function and care is provided by Cleveland Clinic Florida’s Sports Health team.
The Sports Health team offers the latest treatment options for a variety of joint conditions by utilizing joint preservation therapies which are non-invasive in-office treatments. Some joint preservation therapies involve the use of patients own blood and platelets to promote soft tissue healing while others use cells growth factors and particular devices for tissue enhancement in orthopaedic care.
What is joint preservation?
“Joint preservation” refers to all types of joint care, but mostly to treatments that avoid surgery to remove damaged or diseased parts of a joint.
Most joint preservation procedures are minimally-invasive and are performed in our doctor’s offices while other treatments require local anesthesia with little to no down time. Cleveland Clinic Florida’s Sports Health specialists will customize treatment plans using the latest treatments including:
- Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
- Extra Corporeal Shock Wave Therapy
- Tenex Health TX™ Percutaneous Ultrasonic Energy Procedure
- Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate Stem Injection
At Cleveland Clinic Florida, we merge evidence-based orthopaedics with pioneering techniques in joint preservation. Our sports health specialists have access to the most advanced treatments procedures which reduce recovery time for sprains, torn ligaments and bone and joint conditions.
For every patient we treat locally and from all around the world, our goals are the same:
- Reduce pain
