Shared Laboratory Resources

Lerner Research Institute’s Shared Laboratory Resources facilitate and advance Cleveland Clinic research by providing low-cost technologies that support basic, translational and clinical research.

Some highlights from 2022 include:

  • The Center for Therapeutics Discovery synthesized more than 850 novel compounds to support tool compound generation and preclinical candidate selection for in-house collaborations and discovery therapeutics.
  • The Engineering Design Core designed and built 117 anatomy models and performed 431 3D print jobs. Of the 117 anatomy models, 105 were used clinically and 12 were used in research. Of the 431 3D printed models, 49 percent were used by Lerner Research Institute, 48 percent were used by clinical institutes and 3 percent were ordered and used by external researchers.
  • The Polymer Core worked on 22 novel medical device innovation projects.
  • The Cell Culture Core tested 178 samples for mycoplasma and provided 92 cryovials to Lerner Research Institute researchers.
  • The Media Core produced 17,891L of media in-house and processed 4,100 cell culture media orders. 
  • The Glassware Core washed 142,500 pieces of glassware and 105,565 pipettes.  
  • The Microbial Sequencing and Analytics Resource Facility processed more than 2,400 samples for nucleic acid extraction and microbiome sequencing.
Shared Laboratory Resources Revenue

In 2022, Shared Laboratory Resources provided nearly $14 million worth of services to internal researchers and $863 thousand worth of services to external researchers.
