Description
- To provide a resource of data to better define the clinical presentation, treatment strategies and outcomes in patients with acute pituitary apoplexy for future related studies.
Inclusion Criteria
- Adults aged 18 or older with symptomatic pituitary apoplexy (defined as acute or subacute onset of at least 2 of the following: severe headache, diplopia, visual loss, extreme fatigue, nausea/vomiting, altered mental status, syncope, or seizure
- AND MRI or CT scan of the brain demonstrating a sellar mass with evidence of hemorrhage or infarction.
- If surgery performed, surgical pathology must also confirm apoplexy as a diagnosis.
Exclusion Criteria
- Prior pituitary surgery for adenoma, non-adenoma path (Rathke's cleft cyst, other)
- Age less than 18
- Unclear time of onset of initial symptoms based on history and physical examination
- Insufficient follow-up period or unable to obtain informed consent
- Non-adenomatous tumor found at time of surgery
