Xiaoying Lou, MD, is a staff cardiac and aortic surgeon in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular and Thoracic Institute (HVTI). She sees patients and performs surgery at Main Campus.
Specialty Interests:Aortic valve replacement; bicuspid aortic valve; surgery for aortic aneurysms and dissections, including minimally invasive and endovascular (stenting) interventions; hereditary thoracic aortic disease; connective tissue disorders; transcatheter valve interventions; re-operative cardiac surgery; coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
Experience: Cleveland Clinic heart surgeons annually perform more than 4,500 surgeries. Dr. Lou completed more than 1,000 cardiothoracic surgeries during her training, including heart valve surgery, reoperations and complex aortic procedures. She is board certified in thoracic surgery.

Education: Dr. Lou is a graduate of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago. She also holds a Master of Science in Clinical Research from Emory University, Atlanta, which she earned while she completed her thoracic surgery residency there. She came to Cleveland Clinic in 2022 for an advanced aortic surgery fellowship after her residency and was named to the Cleveland Clinic staff in 2023.
Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Lou has been involved in research since 2007, beginning with an American Heart Association (AHA) research scholarship and internship while she was still an undergraduate. She has coauthored more than three dozen research papers in peer-reviewed medical journals, including more than two dozen papers on which she is the lead author. She is a reviewer for Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine and an abstract reviewer for the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
Dr. Lou has made numerous research presentations at national medical meetings, including the annual meetings of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) and AHA.
