Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 9/20/2020, Dr. Oguh has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. the "virtual visit" was supposed to be on ZOOM and we obtained this app' for this purpose. When the appointed time came, we waited but there was no activity. After 15 minutes, we called and was told we may have to wait, as in a regular office visit. I suggested that instead of a "video" visit, perhaps Dr. Oguh could simply just phone us but was told they couldn't do that - only in person or virtual visits were allowed. After 15 more minutes, Dr. Oguh herself, figured that the "system" wasn't working and picked up the phone and called me - very simple and effective. Another disappointment was that the previous day, I had phoned and discussed sending a FAX to Dr. Oguh before the visit to simplify the process. I was told they would be sure to get the FAX to her. Unfortunately, when we spoke on the phone, she hadn't received the FAX.

Dr. Oghu is one of the top two or three doctors I've ever been seen or treated by all across this nation, as a kid growing up in Illinois and later in the military. She should be the model, or teacher, for med students to emulate as a doctor-patient relationship along with her empathy, remarkable ability to elicit information via astute, simple and clear questions the ailments and symptoms of the patient. She is both professional and friendly in her demeanor at all times. As far as her personal relationship with the patient she is like a flower through your visits she blooms slowly, steadily, into a beautiful person.
