Biography

About Nathan Kraynack, MD

NathanC. Kraynack, M.D. was appointed to Cleveland Clinic Children’s in 2013 to the Departmentof Pediatrics ND Center for Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine. He is the MedicalDirector of the Pediatric Solid Organ Transplant and Pediatric Lung TransplantPrograms. 

Hehas been board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric pulmonary medicine. Hecares for children and young adults with all forms of pediatric lung conditionssuch as asthma, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, chronic lung disease ofprematurity, chronic respiratory failure, and those children requiringtechnological assistance to breathe effectively. In particular, he has a keeninterest in children with Cystic Fibrosis, other forms of bronchiectasis, endstage lung disease and those requiring or having had a lung transplant.

Servingas the head of a large accredited Cystic Fibrosis Center for almost ten years,he has a wealth of experience in caring for these patients with their complexmedical needs. He and his team realized that inconsistent care for thiscondition across Cystic Fibrosis Care Center was prevalent and may becontributing to variable outcomes1. Heading a multidisciplinary teamof caregivers, his team developed standardized protocols for cystic fibrosiscare that had not previously been used and were associated with dramaticimprovement in patient outcomes at their center2. These protocolshave since been adopted at other care centers nationally and internationally onat least three continents. His passion for standardized care has extended tonutritional protocols for patients with cystic fibrosis, non-cystic fibrosisbronchiectasis, inpatient management for patients with cystic fibrosis, asthma,and those patients with chronic respiratory failure and lung transplantation.  

Dr. Kraynack has beennamed one of the Best Doctors in America since 2009. He has been a principalinvestigator of translational research trials and a number of multicenterclinical trials for patients with Cystic Fibrosis.  He is the Pediatric Representative for theTransplant Center Advisory Council at Cleveland Clinic. As an AssociateProfessor of Pediatrics at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine andCase Western University and the Northeast Ohio Medical University (Rootstown,OH), he is active in medical education of medical students and pediatricresident physicians.

An invited lecturer atnational and international medical meetings, Dr. Kraynack is a recognizedexpert in the field of Cystic Fibrosis and the implementation of QualityImprovement programs to improve patient outcomes.
