Lusutrombopag tablets help treat thrombocytopenia (a lack of platelets in your blood) in adults with chronic liver disease who are scheduled to undergo a medical procedure. You take the medication for a week or two prior to surgery.

What is this medication?

LUSUTROMBOPAG (loo soo TROM boe pag) helps your body make more platelets. It is used to treat low platelets in adults with chronic liver disease who are scheduled to have a procedure.

What should I tell my care team before I take this medication?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • history of blood clots
  • an unusual or allergic reaction to lusutrombopag, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant
  • breast-feeding

How should I use this medication?

Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. Follow the directions on the prescription label. You can take it with or without food. If it upsets your stomach, take it with food. Take your medicine at regular intervals. Do not take it more often than directed. Do not stop taking except on your doctor's advice.

Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.

NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

  • allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue
  • signs and symptoms of a blood clot such as breathing problems; changes in vision; chest pain; severe, sudden headache; pain, swelling, warmth in the leg; trouble speaking; sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm, or leg

  • headache

Where should I keep my medication?

Keep out of the reach of children.
