Description

Description

We are looking for people who have an SCI that occurred at least 1 year ago and have difficulties in using their affected hands in daily activities. The purpose of this study is to test whether brain and nerve stimulation can improve how training one arm benefits movement of the opposite, untrained arm following spinal cord injury (SCI).

This study will use a new way of neurostimulation called paired cortico-motor neuronal stimulation (PCMS). To do this, the investigator will use a coil hooked to a machine that sends magnetic pulses to your brain and another machine that sends electrical pulses to your wrist. The magnetic machine will be held over your head and you might feel a quick tap and hear a clicking noise on top of the head. The electrical machine will be held on your wrist and you might feel your hand muscles twitch. The machines will work together to potentially improve connectivity between your central nervous system and hand muscles.

Study participation is for a total of 1.5 months and you will be compensated for completion of the study. We are also looking for health controls over 18 years old with no history of neurological conditions.
