IRB Study Number 23-121
Status Recruiting
Institute Taussig Cancer Institute
Description
2.1 Primary objectives:
• Determine the feasibility of obtaining and performing bioelectric impedance spectrometry on patients pre-HCT and at several time-points post HCT
• Investigate the association of pre-HCT body composition as measured by BIS and muscle function as measured by handgrip strength and gait speed.
• Investigate the association of sarcopenia, fat-free mass, body fat, and pre-transplant "frailty"/geriatric assessments
• Investigate the trajectory of body composition, handgrip strength, and gait speed from pre- to post-transplant
2.2 Secondary objectives:
• Obtain exploratory data on the association of pre-transplant body composition, handgrip strength, and gait speed on graft-versus-host disease, the incidence of infection, non-relapse mortality, and overall survival
• Obtain exploratory data on the association of change in body composition and sarcopenia on non-relapse mortality and overall survival
Inclusion Criteria
• Patients undergoing first allogeneic HCT for a hematologic malignancy. All diagnoses will be included.
• All conditioning regimens will be included
• All donor sources will be included (at least 8/8 HLA related, unrelated, alternative donor sources- umbilical cord blood and haploidentical)
• All graft sources (bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cells) will be included.
• Age ≥ 18 years old
• Patients must be able to sign written informed consent
• Patients must be able to comply with assessments.
Exclusion Criteria
• Patients with a pacemaker
• Patients with any medical illness or concurrent psychiatric illness, which, in the investigator's opinion, will inhibit the ability to perform surveys or provide informed consent.
