Description
The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of moderate intensity treadmill exercise to high intensity treadmill exercise on the signs and symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. If you choose to participate in this project, you will be randomized into one of these two exercise groups. Both groups will complete their treadmill exercise 4 times per week for 18 months. Your overall time in the study will be approximately 24 months.
Inclusion Criteria
Between 40 and 80 years old
Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in the last 3 years
Not currently on medication for your Parkinson’s disease and not planning to start within 6 months of joining the study
Willing and able to complete the treadmill exercise and participate in study visits at Cleveland Clinic periodically for 24 months
Exclusion Criteria
- Already participating in 2 hours or more per week of greater than moderate intensity aerobic exercise (running, cycling, lap swimming, etc)
