Description
Objectives
To determine whether activation of the contact or complement systems predicts VTE in patients with cancer.
To determine whether specific plasma microRNAs or microRNA profiles predict VTE in patients with cancer.
To determine whether biomarkers identified in Aims 1 and 2 can improve or replace existing risk scores.
To determine the correlations between gene expression profiles of circulating blood cells in colorectal cancer patients, as determined by single cell RNA-seq, with thrombotic risk, disease stage, and progression-free survival.
Inclusion Criteria
New diagnosis of colon or rectal adenocarcinoma
High- or low-risk for VTE (Khorana score ≥4 or <2)
Age ≥ 18 years
Provide written, informed consent.
Exclusion Criteria
Any prior treatment for colon or rectal cancer
Prior VTE and/or current therapeutic anticoagulation
Active (<1 year) second malignancy
