Blood & Marrow Transplant
Since the Blood & Marrow Transplant Center’s Program began in 1977, our physicians have performed over 4,000 blood & marrow transplant procedures, making our blood & marrow transplant center home to the largest program in Ohio.
Clinical Trials & Research
The Blood & Marrow Transplant program offers state-of-the art therapies for autologous, allogeneic and non-myeloablative allogeneic blood & marrow transplants as treatment for cancer.
We offer multiple blood & marrow transplant options and utilize various hematopoietic progenitor cell sources to fit the clinical need of the patient.

Music Therapy Helps Patient Through the "Blue Days"
Melinda Martin, 52, was diagnosed with leukemia in November 2012. She was discharged from Cleveland Clinic today after spending 13 days in the hospital following her second marrow transplant, but not before leaving a heartfelt message in the form of song to her caregivers. She credits music therapy for getting her through the 'blue days.'
Drs. Hamilton and Gerds join Blood & Marrow Transplant Program
Dr. Betty Hamilton received her medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed her internship and residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She completed a hematology/oncology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Hamilton’s clinical and research interests are in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for myeloid malignancies and novel strategies for the prevention and treatment of graft versus host disease.
Dr. Aaron Gerds received his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He stayed at Loyola for his internal medicine training, where he also served as chief resident and earned a graduate degree in clinical research methods. Subsequently, he moved to Seattle for fellowship training at the University of Washington and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Dr. Gerds' research interests relate to the integration of transplant and non-transplant therapies for disorders of blood and marrow failure, in particular the myelodysplastic syndromes and myeloproliferative neoplasms.
