Cleveland Clinic Euclid Hospital Celebrates New Senior Behavioral Medicine Unit

On Sept. 17, Cleveland Clinic Euclid Hospital hosted a special ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of a new Senior Behavioral Medicine Unit. Local leaders, community members and Cleveland Clinic caregivers were in attendance, including Cleveland Clinic Euclid Hospital President Teresa Dews, MD; Euclid Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gail; and State Senator Kenny Yuko.

The $3.1 million investment in the Euclid community creates increased living space for Euclid Hospital behavioral medicine patients with rooms, dining and common areas. The new unit – with 10 private and three semi-private patient rooms with lakefront views – was designed to meet and exceed parameters set by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and Joint Commission, the organization that accredits healthcare organizations. “This unit was designed for patient and caregiver safety,” says Dr. Dews. “We are fortunate to have a team of highly trained caregivers in nursing and care management support, as well as a medical director, Upma Dhingra, MD, who is a board-certified, fellowship-trained specialist in geriatric psychiatry. This is very important for our patients, as well as our community and our caregivers.”
