Who we are

Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital is an award-winning 332-bed, not-for-profit hospital, centrally located on Florida’s East Coast. Indian River Hospital was founded by Garnett L. Radin, a registered nurse in Vero Beach, Florida. In 1932, Radin purchased a small hotel and converted it into the first hospital in the area. Radin’s vision has evolved over the last 93 years into a multi-service, not-for-profit community hospital. Indian River Hospital is part of the Cleveland Clinic Florida Region and shares the enterprise-wide mission, vision and values of Cleveland Clinic.

Our nurses take pride in servicing their hospitals and clinic-based patients as well as their local and international communities. The nursing staff at each location reflects the communities they serve and positions them to provide comprehensive, culturally sensitive care to meet their patients’ individualized needs.

Professional Practice Model

The Zielony Institute Nursing Professional Practice Model is a visual representation of the values, organizational structures and processes that provide a unifying framework for the practice of nursing at Cleveland Clinic. Our nurses use the model to guide their nursing practice, ensuring the highest quality compassionate care. The model’s concepts of Professional Governance, Team of Teams, Strategic Leadership and Engagement are overarching themes that support the daily work of nurses. Nurses work within the components of quality & safety, relationship-based culture, professional practice & development and research, EBP & innovation to deliver world-class care.

Nursing Professional Practice Model

Shared governance

Shared governance is an empowering organizational model that creates a structure for shared decision-making in the clinical care of patients. Shared governance gives nurses across all care settings a voice to affect their practice, and the care provided for patients. It supports a culture of partnership, equity, accountability and ownership, which enhances nursing satisfaction, retention, patient satisfaction and quality outcomes.

When granting Magnet® and Pathway to Excellence® program designations, the American Nurses Credentialing Center considers how well the principles of shared governance are implemented throughout an organization.
