Biographical Sketch

J. Michael Henderson, MD, is Chairman of the Quality and Patient Safety Institute at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Henderson specializes in treatment of portal hypertension and in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery.

Dr. Henderson's current focus is on Quality Care, Quality Outcomes and Patient Safety, with responsibility for this activity for Cleveland Clinic. His clinical activity is limited to those areas in which he has received national and international recognition -- portal  hypertension and hepato/biliary/pancreatic surgery.

Dr. Henderson was Principal Investigator of an NIH-funded grant comparing transjugular intrahepatic portal systemic shunts with distal splenorenal shunt for management of refractory variceal bleeding, which changed management for patients. He has published more than 250 scientific papers and textbook chapters, and serves on the Editorial Boards of Annals of Surgery and the official journal of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, HPB.
