What to expect at your first appointment
Nutrition counseling at Cleveland Clinic in Florida begins with an hour-long, one-on-one session with a registered dietitian. This session may take place in person or virtually, depending on your preference.
During your first counseling session, a registered dietitian:
- Reviews your medical history and completes a nutrition assessment.
- Learns about your personal health and lifestyle goals.
- Identifies potential behaviors and barriers to change.
- Offers tips for meal planning, grocery shopping, dining out and physical activity.
- Provides information about how nutrition affects health conditions.
- Customizes a nutritionally balanced dietary plan with realistic, achievable short- and long-term goals.
Follow-up nutrition counseling services
You may participate in 30-minute in-person or virtual follow-up sessions every three to six months or more often, depending on your needs and goals.
Does insurance cover nutrition counseling?
Because insurance policies vary, you should check with your provider. Some insurers cover nutrition counseling if you have a health condition and a physician referral. You also have the option of paying out-of-pocket.
