Biographical Sketch
Robert Joseph Heyka, MD, is the Medical Director for the FMC/Cleveland Clinic East (Fairhill) Dialysis Center, the Medical Director for the FMC/Cleveland Clinic Solon Dialysis Center, the Director of Chronic Hemodialysis in the Department of Hypertension and Nephrology, and Chair of the Board of Directors for the FMC/Ohio Renal Care Group.
Dr. Heyka’s specialty interests include chronic and acute renal failure, lipid abnormalities in renal disease, dialysis, hypertension, renal bone disease, cardiovascular disease in kidney patients, and vascular access for dialysis. He is certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
He earned his medical degree from Wane State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich. He completed a residency at Bon Secours Hospital in Grosse Pointe Park, Mich. He was Boy Frame Lecturer in Bone and Mineral Metabolism in the Department of Endocrinology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, as well as a Cleveland Clinic Fellow in Nephrology in the Department of Hypertension and Nephrology.
Dr. Heyka is a member of several professional societies, including the American College of Physicians; the American Society of Nephrology; the International Society of Nephrology; the National Kidney Foundation; American Heart Association, where he sits on the councils for high blood pressure research and kidney in cardiovascular disease; and the European Dialysis and Transplant Association.
