Biography

About Gustavo Heresi, MD

Gustavo A. Heresi, M.D., M.S. is the Director of the Pulmonary Vascular and Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension Program in the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in the Respiratory Institute at Cleveland Clinic. He is board certified in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine. Dr. Heresi's clinical interests are in pulmonary hypertension, acute pulmonary embolism, and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). He is Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.

Dr. Heresi has focused his research efforts on his specialty interests, including risk prediction and non-invasive biomarkers of pulmonary arterial hypertension, diagnosis and management of pulmonary arterial hypertension and acute pulmonary embolism, treatment of pulmonary hypertension and right ventricular failure in the ICU, and diagnosis and treatment of CTEPH.

Dr. Heresi has been the recipient of many awards including The Medical Student Inpatient Teaching Award, University of Miami School of Medicine 2004; Distinguished Medical Resident Award, Department of Medicine, University of Miami 2005; Gilead Sciences Research Scholars Program Award in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension 2009; Who's Who in America 2009; Best Doctors in America 2012; Young Investigator Award, American College of Chest Physicians 2012; and Teacher of the Year Award, Cleveland Clinic Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship 2013-2014.

Dr. Heresi is a journal reviewer for several peer-reviewed publications including: American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Chest, European Respiratory Journal, and Respiratory Care. He is a member of the American Thoracic Society (ATS), American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP), Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA), and the International CTEPH Association (ICA).

After receiving his medical degree from the University of San Agustin Faculty of Medicine in Arequipa, Peru, Dr. Heresi completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center in Miami, Fl. He completed his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at The Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Heresi is phenomenal. Discusses in depth my progress,care,options,and future treatment. It has been 14 years since I was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. Dr. Heresi and Mindy are like family to us. Dr. Heresi always has options for us to discus about moving forward with my health issues. Dr. Heresi has been my doctor for nearly 12 yrs now and he has consistently monitored and treated my Pulmonary Artery Hypertension with diligence and concern for my well being.
