Currently the Medical Director at the Huizenga Executive Health Department in our Weston Campus at Cleveland Clinic Florida, Dr. Piloto received his Bachelors of Science at the University of Central Florida in Molecular Biology and Microbiology in 1997. He obtained his medical degree and the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) in Dominican Republic in 2003 and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Cleveland Clinic Florida in 2006. Dr. Piloto is Board Certified as Internal Medicine Physician since 2003 and a Fellow in the American College of Physicians since 2017. His main interests are in general prevention of diseases like cardiovascular disease, cancer, hypertension, diabetes and obesity.
He believes in the motto Patients First which led him to become the Chief Experience Officer at the Cleveland Clinic Weston Campus overseeing the Patient Experience Office and the Center of Excellence in Healthcare Communication. He served as the Chief Patient Experience Officer for 6 years starting in 2016, eventually stepping down from this position in 2023. This allowed him the opportunity to help improve, shape and provide our patients with the best experience during their hospital stay and visit to our clinics. Dr. Piloto also served as a facilitator of the Foundations of Healthcare Communication Course which allowed him to help teach and improve communication and empathy to our Staff Physicians, Residents, Fellows and all caregivers.
He enjoys helping patients by preventing illness and diseases as well as helping them heal their bodies and minds. Working in the Huizenga Executive Health Department gives him the opportunity to promote and practice preventative health medicine and life improving counseling to encourage healthier lifestyles for our patients; practicing a proactive type of medicine which can prevent disease from impacting a patient versus our more traditional medicine which is a more reactive medicine when illness becomes managed once it has impacted the patient.
In our Executive Health Department he works on a daily basis with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver comprehensive medical care to our patients. Performing Comprehensive Annual Exams, Comprehensive Labs, Electrocardiograms, Chest X-rays, Computed Tomography Cardiac Calcium Scores, Computed Tomography Total Body Evaluations, Cardiac Stress Testing, Pulmonary Function Tests, Ultrasound of the Carotid Arteries, Ultrasound of the Aorta, Ankle-Brachial Index, Visual Acuity Test, Tonometry Test to measure Eye Pressure, Fundus Examination of the Eye, Audiological Hearing Test, Total Body Composition to evaluate Muscle Mass and Body Fat Percentage, Bone Density, Mammograms, Fitness Assessment, Nutritional Assessment, Mental Health Assessment and an update on all vaccinations to our patients which gives him the opportunity to keep patients free of communicable diseases and form a complete health evaluation and plan to improve their overall health, improve their quality of life and prevent poor health outcomes in the future.
Dr. Piloto feels that this position has given him the opportunity to care for local patients, domestic patients, international patients, Cleveland Clinic staff physicians, Cleveland Clinic administrators and large corporations who have a unique type of patients who live extremely stressful lives due to increased responsibilities, poor sleep, heavy travel and sedentary lifestyles which make them a higher risk for obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes that can lead to heart attacks and strokes. Dr. Piloto states, “If we can prevent diseases before they occur and become proactive in our approach to healthcare, then in turn we can improve health outcomes for these corporations and improve their productivity metrics by maintaining a healthy lifestyle for their executives as well as improving productivity and engagement.”
In his personal time, he enjoys running, biking, fishing, travelling, listening to 80’s classic rock music, playing golf and spending time with family and friends who give balance, support and strength so that he can perform at his highest capacity and have the mental endurance to care for our Executives, Private Patients and Staff Physicians with highest quality of care.
