Overview

Cleveland Clinic in Florida provides an array of clinical and non-clinical experiences that foster innovation and learning. These hands-on experiences play an integral part in student learning, and Florida Education is happy to support this process.

Florida Education is committed to improving communication and streamlining the onboarding of health professions students for academic affiliates from all over the country.

Students

Students

After clinical or non-clinical placement is confirmed by your academic institution and Cleveland Clinic in Florida*, you will be required to complete an electronic onboarding and orientation process. An email will be sent to you to begin this process. This process will be initiated by your academic institution. An email will be sent to you when you are able to begin onboarding.

In order to ensure a safe environment for patients, employees and other visitors, the following requirements must be completed during onboarding:

  1. Update and verify your personal information.
  2. Review Cleveland Clinic's mission, vision, and values.
  3. Review Cleveland Clinic policies.
  4. Sign a student confidentially statement and waiver.
  5. Meet all health and background check requirements.
  6. Complete online coursework.
  7. Obtain a student ID badge.

Thank you for your interest in establishing a clinical rotation at Cleveland Clinic in Florida.

*If you do not already have clinical or non-clinical placement, please contact your academic representative to make arrangements. To complete a student rotation at Cleveland Clinic, an Affiliation Agreement must exist between Cleveland Clinic and your academic institution. Therefore, all placements are arranged between the academic institution's representative and Cleveland Clinic.

Clinical placement and onboarding instructions

Step 1: Verify Affiliation Agreement

Verify that a current Affiliation Agreement exists between Cleveland Clinic and your academic institution. If you are unsure whether or not an Affiliation Agreement exists between your institution and Cleveland Clinic, please contact the Program Manager for the appropriate site:

Step 2: Initiating Clinical or Non-Clinical Rotations

Placements can ONLY be arranged by an academic representative after an affiliation agreement is fully executed between Cleveland Clinic and the academic institution. Clinical and non-clinical placements are made with a designated education representative for the individual discipline. Clinical and non-clinical placement requests must be made by a representative of the academic program; requests made directly by the students will need to be verified with academic representatives.

Step 3: Complete the Onboarding Request Form

An onboarding request form must be completed by the Academic Program Director or other academic representative after clinical placement has been arranged and the student has met all of the health and background check requirements. The onboarding request form is not to be completed by students.

Completion of the onboarding request form is required for students who are new to Cleveland Clinic as well as for returning students completing additional clinical rotations.

Step 4: Complete the Electronic Onboarding Process

After the completed onboarding request form has been submitted and processed by the Florida Health Professions Education team, the student and academic representative will receive instructions via email regarding beginning the electronic onboarding process.

Please note: Nursing education (excluding Anesthesiologist Assistant, Nurse Anesthesia (SRNA/CRNA), Nurse Practitioner (all types), and Physician Assistant) does not fall under the umbrella of the Florida Health Professions Education. Requirements

Demonstration of Proof

Background check

School must attest that they have conducted a retrospective background check on all students assigned to the program and members of staff/faculty responsible for supervision and/or instruction prior to their participation in clinical activities. Unless Cleveland Clinic in Florida is notified in writing, all background checks are negative. The background check included the following:

  1. Social Security number verification.
  2. Criminal Search (7 years)
  3. Violent Sexual Offender & Predator registry
  4. HHS/OIG/GSA

Note: If there is a positive finding on the background check, the school must contact the Florida Health Professions Education at FLHPEEducation@ccf.org.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

If CPR certification is required by the department in which the student is completing their rotation, students and on-site academic clinical faculty must have current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support CPR course certification.

Negative tuberculosis (TB) skin test

Negative test result

Two-step Mantoux test (TB test), QuantiFERON®-TB Gold test, or T-Spot test within twelve (12) months before the clinical rotation start date, with annual updates while in the clinical portion of the training.

Subsequent annual tuberculosis (TB) test

Negative test result

One-step Mantoux test (TB test), QuantiFERON®-(TB Gold test or T-Spot)

Immunization for chicken pox (varicella) OR positive titer

Dated immunization record OR
Dated positive titer results (if had chicken pox previously)

Immunization for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR)

Dated immunization record OR
Dated positive titer results

Hepatitis B titer OR waiver

No Vaccination = Waiver
No Titer = Waiver
Partial Vaccination = Waiver
Vaccination + Negative Titer = Waiver

Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) booster within the past 10 years

CDC-approved boosters: Adacel and Boostrix
