Michelle Zec, MD, is an Orthopaedic Surgeon at Cleveland Clinic Canada. Dr. Zec is fellowship-trained in hand and upper extremity surgery and orthopaedic trauma. She has a particular interest hand and wrist surgery, trauma surgery, and complex reconstruction. Additionally, she has a strong interest in WALANT surgery (Wide Awake Local Anesthesia No Tourniquet) due to its patient-centric approach.  

Dr. Zec obtained her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Calgary, before going on to complete a Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of British Columbia.  She completed her first fellowship in Hand, Wrist and Elbow Surgery at the University of British Columbia, followed by a Fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at Queen’s University.  

Dr. Zec is experienced providing quaternary-level, subspecialty care in hand and wrist surgery, as well as wrist and elbow surgery at academic teaching hospitals in both Toronto and Calgary. She is a dedicated clinical researcher and has been involved in numerous research projects and publications in the areas of surgical education, orthopaedic biomechanics, orthopaedic imaging and computer-assisted surgery.

When she’s not seeing patients, Dr. Zec enjoys cycling on the waterfront, discovering new restaurants and recreating her favourite restaurant dishes at home.
