Biography

Jim Niu, MD, is a Sports Medicine Physician at Cleveland Clinic Canada. Dr. Niu commonly helps to diagnose and treat conditions such as osteoarthritis, tendon injuries, and ligament injuries. He has a particular interest in concussion management, osteoarthritis and orthobiologics.

Dr. Niu first obtained his Bachelor of Science in Honors Biochemistry from McGill University in Quebec. He went on to complete his Doctor of Medicine, before undertaking his Residency in Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa. His interest in athletics led him to complete a Fellowship in Sports and Exercise Medicine. A lifelong learner, Dr. Niu has completed additional certification in numerous clinical areas, including casting, MSK ultrasound, cycling injuries, illness and performance, and sport first responder.

Passionate about the world of sports, Dr. Niu has provided medical coverage for numerous events and professional teams, including the Ottawa International Triathlon, Canadian Track and Field Championships, Ontario Parasport Games, Canada Karate Championship, the University of Carleton’s Men and Women’s Soccer teams, and the University of Ottawa’s Men’s hockey team.

When he’s not treating patients, Dr. Niu enjoys strength training and playing soccer and basketball. He is fluent in English and Mandarin.
