Biography

Marie Claire Bourque, MD, is a Psychiatrist and a member of the Advisory Services team at Cleveland Clinic Canada. Dr. Bourque is an international and national award-winning clinician, educator, speaker, and leader with more than ten years of leadership experience and strategic vision. A respected and recognized mental health thought leader, Dr. Bourque blends her experience in the public and private sector to communicate and influence systems of care. 

Dr. Bourque completed her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Calgary as well as her Residency in Psychiatry at Dalhousie University. She completed additional training in sports psychiatry through the International Society for Sports Psychiatry. Dr. Bourque’s experience as an elite national level athlete informs her commitment to high performance sports and to supporting her peers and colleagues through a lens of collaboration. Through training and practice, she blends data-driven methodologies with a flexible approach to the human experience. 

Dr. Bourque is deeply committed to improving the way mental healthcare is delivered in Canada. She has worked with top leaders in prominent organizations and is regularly sought out to provide education about mental health, employee health, and high-performance environments in the workplace. She was invited to be part of the COVID-19 Working Group on Mental Health by the Royal Society of Canada, where she advocated that the prevention of mental illness, in addition to the treatment of, be included in the recommendations made to the federal government of Canada. Previously, she acted as President of the Foothills Medical Staff Association (more than 1200 physicians), where she developed and executed a plan to reignite a thriving medical culture. 

When she’s not providing medical or advisory support, Dr. Bourque enjoys travelling, cooking, painting, working out and spending time outdoors.
