Biography

Jeremy Gilbert, MD, is an Endocrinology Specialist, providing endocrinology-related consultations on-site to patients in our Executive Health Program.

When he is not at our clinic, Dr. Gilbert is on staff and on the executive committee of the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre Department of Medicine Practice Plan and Medical-Dental-Midwifery Staff Association. He has a special clinical interest in patients with diabetes and its complications including diabetes in pregnancy. He also collaborates with other medical services, including cardiology, nephrology and cardiovascular surgery in order to positively impact diabetes research and care at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Born in Winnipeg, Dr. Gilbert completed his medical degree, internal medicine training and endocrinology residency at the University of Toronto. After graduation, he was a clinical associate at University Health Network before advancing to staff member at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He currently attends on the Endocrinology Consulting Service and the Clinical Teaching Unit for Internal Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Gilbert has demonstrated a passion for his work in clinical practice as well as in the classroom. Dr. Gilbert completed the Master Teacher program at the University of Toronto and is on its Postgraduate Endocrinology Education Committee. Dr. Gilbert is also on the Residency Training Committee for the Department of Medicine and is the Education Site Director for Endocrinology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Awarded for his commitment and contribution to medical education, Dr. Gilbert has been the recipient of the Young Teacher Award through the department of medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the George Frum Award for postgraduate endocrinology teaching at the University of Toronto.

Active in the medical community, Dr. Gilbert is also an executive member of The Banting and Best Diabetes Care and Education Committee and Toronto Diabetes Association. Dr. Gilbert is also a faculty advisor for the Residents’ Council at the Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism and he has also been appointed as the Endocrinology Lead for the Toronto Central Regional Coordination Centre as part of the Ontario Diabetes Strategy.

In his leisure time, Dr. Gilbert enjoys being very active in the orthodox Jewish community and attends prayer services daily as well as participating in Talmudic learning nightly. His greatest joy is his family, including his wife Sarah and 3 children - Tova, Noam and Meir.
