Biography
Amy Cheng, MD, is an Emergency Medicine Physician and a member of Cleveland Clinic Canada’s Medical Director Program. Dr. Cheng is an award winning educator and researcher with over 10 years of clinical medicine experience.
Dr. Cheng obtained her Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto before going on to complete her Doctor of Medicine. A strong interest in healthcare management led her to undertake her MBA from the IE Business School in Madrid, Spain. She then completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Toronto, during which time she served as Chief Resident. Dr. Cheng most recently completed the Program in Clinical Effectiveness through Harvard University.
Widely respected for her leadership skills, Dr. Cheng has held a variety of clinical roles in quality improvement, patient safety and physician wellness. She currently acts as Co-chair, Physician Wellness, for the Department of Emergency Medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital, and previously acted as Co-Chair for the Choosing Wisely Canada Working Group through the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Cheng holds the title of Assistant Professor for the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto.
A dedicated researcher, Dr. Cheng has authored 17 peer-review publications, 2 non-peer review publications, and 1 book chapter. She has been an invited speaker to more than 20 international and national conferences. She previously acted as a Program Director for the Community Health Outreach Program at the Guyana Red Cross in Georgetown, Guyana. In this role, she delivered over 200 educational talks for TV programs and radio talk shows.
When she’s not seeing patients, Dr. Cheng enjoys running, travelling and hanging out with her two energetic children. She is fluent in English and Cantonese, and conversant in Mandarin and Spanish.
