A Pediatric Specialty Hospital
The Children's Hospital for Rehabilitation is one of only a handful of accredited, freestanding pediatric rehabilitation hospitals in the country. We serve infants and children through age 18 with complex chronic illnesses and disabilities.
Our Shaker Medical Campus is home to Ohio's only freestanding pediatric rehabilitation hospital, Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital for Rehabilitation. Here, we offer both an inpatient program outpatient rehabilitation and therapy services for children's chronic conditions, and others recovering from a trauma, surgery, or an acute hospital stay. Our Shaker Campus is also home to the renowned Cleveland Clinic Center for Autism , treatment for feeding disorders, an innovative motor control program, pediatric kidney dialysis and specialized foster care, to name but a few. Comprehensive outpatient therapy is offered at the hospital and at three convenient locations in Greater Cleveland.

Rehabilitation Team
Depending upon the needs of the child, the rehabilitation team may consist of board-certified pediatricians, care managers, nurses, therapists, psychologists, social workers and other professionals. The main goal of the team is to help children become as functionally independent as possible.
The Right Mix of Therapy
For each child, we work to create the right mix of therapeutic environments and approaches. For example, when children have complex treatment and observation needs that require 24-hour support, services are provided in our inpatient hospital. Children with less intensive needs may be served in our day hospital, where they return home each evening and weekend. Other children take advantage of our therapy services in a variety of outpatient settings.
Appointments may be made with therapists for physical, occupational and/or speech language therapy at any one of four convenient locations (Shaker Campus, Beachwood, Westlake and Middleburg Heights ). Each location also offers augmentative and alternative communication services. Our professional staff at all locations strives to make children as independent as possible. They work to improve motor, language, or developmental function, helping children to achieve their maximum potential. Therapists involve and educate families in all aspects of their child’s therapy.
Team members evaluate patients’ needs and develop individual treatment plans based on a series of goals. Therapy may focus on promoting more normal muscle tone, motor development, strength, endurance, range of motion, sensory-motor skills, communication, language, or feeding. Our therapists apply a developmental approach to patient care, incorporating pediatric expertise into all evaluations and treatment programs.

Diverse Scope of Services
The strength of our hospital lies in its diverse scope of services. All our therapeutic services are designed to reinforce and build upon each other. For example, a child with a brain injury may require an inpatient stay. While hospitalized, the child might participate in the Motor Control Program and receive rehabilitation from a team of physical therapists, speech/language therapists and occupational therapists, among others. Music therapy may be introduced to reinforce techniques or to help the child express feelings. As the child progresses, he or she may continue rehabilitation through the day hospital or participate in outpatient therapy at the hospital or any one of three satellite locations in Beachwood, Westlake and Middleburg Heights.
Support After Discharge
All our patients are discharged with a solid support system in place. Parents and caregivers are given education and support services to help them develop the skills and confidence necessary to care for their children. So that children can maintain and further their progress, members of the care team advocate for them by making referrals to appropriate community resources and programs.
