Overview

Overview

Our specialists consult with pediatricians prior to referral or appointments and provide care for your child and adolescent patients requiring hospitalization. A transfer coordinator will arrange for hospitalization and initiate appropriate evaluation and care upon the patient's arrival. If necessary, critically ill pediatric patients can be transferred via ambulance, helicopter or fixed-wing aircraft.

We provide several options for health care professionals seeking to refer a pediatric patient:

Virtual Second Opinions

Virtual Second Opinions are valuable for patients who wish to avoid the time and expense of travel. This program provides virtual access to a Cleveland Clinic physician who will review the diagnosis and treatment plan. Following a comprehensive evaluation of medical records and labs, patients receive an educational second opinion from an expert in their medical condition covering diagnosis, treatment options or alternatives as well as recommendations regarding future therapeutic considerations. Patients also have the unique opportunity to speak with the physician expert directly to address questions or concerns.

Critical Care Transport

Critical Care Transport

Our critical care fleet transports infants, children and adolescents across the community or worldwide with mobile ICU vehicles, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.

While pediatric patients are stabilized at a referring facility and en route, our team of pediatric transport nurses, paramedics and EMTs maintain two-way communication with a board-certified pediatric intensivist. Treatment can be initiated during transfer to improve outcomes for conditions such as septic shock and neonatal congenital heart disease.

Pediatric patients are promptly triaged to our Emergency Department, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), based on need. They can also be admitted immediately to an inpatient floor.
