Cleveland Clinic Promotes Two Executive Leaders
Cleveland Clinic promoted two top executives to lead the continued integration of its hospitals, ensure high quality for patients throughout the health system and develop partnerships that will strategically position Cleveland Clinic for the future.
David Bronson, MD, has been named President of Cleveland Clinic Regional Hospitals and Fred DeGrandis has been named Chairman of the Cleveland Clinic Community Physician Partnership and Quality Alliance. Dr. Bronson will lead operations at the Clinic’s nine regional hospitals in northeast Ohio and work to standardize quality and safety. DeGrandis will focus on strengthening the Clinic’s relationships with community physicians and hospitals throughout Ohio and beyond.
“As healthcare reform takes shape, Cleveland Clinic is integrating our hospitals to design a healthcare system that delivers the highest quality care at the greatest value to our patients,” said Delos M. “Toby” Cosgrove, MD, CEO and President of Cleveland Clinic. “These two proven executives will help lead our organization through change driven by healthcare reform and the long-term effects of the economy.”
As Cleveland Clinic moves forward with further integrating its health system, Dr. Bronson will emphasize quality, safety and comprehensive care for patients. He will help drive efficiencies across the enterprise, which includes Euclid, Fairview, Hillcrest, Huron, Lakewood, Lutheran, Marymount, Medina and South Pointe hospitals, and affiliate Ashtabula County Medical Center.
“The full integration of the Cleveland Clinic health system will best position us to provide the right care for patients in the right setting,” Dr. Bronson said. “Clinical excellence, quality and efficiency of care are the focus for our entire health system.”
Dr. Bronson previously was Chairman of the Medicine Institute at Cleveland Clinic. An interim chairman will be announced in the near future to take his place.
Dr. Bronson has served on Cleveland Clinic’s Board of Governors, Board of Trustees and the Executive Management Team. He also is Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. He is a member of the Board of Regents of the American College of Physicians and a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Joint Commission and also serves as Chairman, Board of Directors of the American Medical Group Association. He joined Cleveland Clinic in 1992 and led Cleveland Clinic’s multi-site regional practices, including operations in Canada, from 1995-2008. Dr. Bronson received his medical degree from the University of Vermont and completed residencies in internal medicine at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Vermont, where he was chief resident.
As head of the Cleveland Clinic Community Physician Partnership (CPP) and Quality Alliance, Mr. DeGrandis will take leadership of working with doctors and hospitals outside the Clinic’s health system. CPP is the largest physician organization in northeast Ohio and supports community physicians and practitioners in their efforts to provide the best patient care. The Quality Alliance is a significant initiative that enables independent physicians and Cleveland Clinic employed physicians to work more closely around ensuring the care patients receive is safe, efficient and patient-centered. Mr. DeGrandis also will represent the Clinic on trustee boards at the regional hospitals and will serve as a leader on the Northern Ohio Regional Trauma Network.
“Collaborating with doctors and hospitals will continue to drive efficiency and quality for patients throughout the region,” Mr. DeGrandis said. “Our goal is to work closely with the northeast Ohio medical community to enhance how we provide care.”
Mr. DeGrandis previously served as CEO and President for the Clinic’s regional hospitals. He was appointed Vice President and Chief Legal Counsel for Lakewood Hospital in 1980 and remained in that position until he was named President of St. John West Shore Hospital in 1992. In 2003, he was appointed CEO of Fairview, Lakewood and Lutheran hospitals. DeGrandis has established himself as a dedicated leader in the community, serving on the boards of numerous non-profit organizations in the Cleveland area, including the Ohio Hospital Board of Trustees.
