Neurology
Cleveland Clinic pediatric neurologists offer prenatal consultation for a wide range of neonatal neurology disorders detected in utero by fetal ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, or amniocentesis. They also offer pediatric neurology consultation and treatment for a variety of newborn conditions including hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, neonatal seizures, stroke, CNS malformations, brachial plexopathies, neonatal hypotonia, meningomyelocele, hydrocephaus, IVH, and other problems. Together, the Cleveland Clinic Health System offers specialized services for over 9600 births per year.
Neurosurgery
Neurological abnormalities are often diagnosed before or shortly after delivery. The pediatric and congenital neurosurgery service treats disorders at this age, which include hydrocephalus, intraventricular hemorrhage, cranial abnormalities and spinal abnormalities, such as tethered cord and open spinal cord defects. A new neonatal intensive care unit gives specialized care concentrated for this age group and works closely with the neurology and neurosurgery services.
