Description

This elective focuses on the field of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (CL), where psychiatric principles are applied in the context of medically complex patients in hospital settings. The course is designed to provide medical students or residents with a comprehensive understanding of the intersection between physical and mental health, particularly for hospitalized patients with comorbid psychiatric and medical conditions. Through hands-on clinical exposure, students will learn how to assess, diagnose, and manage psychiatric symptoms in patients with acute and chronic medical illnesses.

Objectives

  • To provide students with opportunities to participate in psychiatric consultation to both medical and surgical patients as part of the consultation/liaison psychiatry service.
  • Students will learn to identify and manage psychiatric conditions arising in patients hospitalized for medical and surgical reasons.
  • Students will be exposed to excellent learning opportunities at the interface of medicine and mental health.
