Behavioral Therapy for Preteens and Teens
Short-term, individualized therapy for preteens and teens (10-16 years). During therapy, clinicians teach specific skills and strategies to manage symptoms and improve daily functioning. Goals for therapy may include understanding an ADHD diagnosis, developing healthy lifestyle routines, improving organizational or study skills, emotional management, and developing and maintaining positive relationships with peers or family members. Services typically require high rates of caregiver involvement to assist with practice and generalization of skills outside of therapy sessions.
The length of services is dependent on goals, but families can expect to meet with the therapist weekly or bi-weekly for a few weeks to a few months. Patients may start with short-term therapy to learn tools and strategies and then transition to a different long-term therapy provider for maintenance or persistent concerns. Alternatively, patients who currently attend therapy with a different provider may participate in ACET services as long as each provider is targeting different areas of need.
Note: At this time, we don't offer long-term therapy or ADHD coaching.
Details on location:
Sessions may be in person at Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital for Rehabilitation or via telehealth (as discussed with your provider).
Individual Consultation
Patients/caregivers may participate in consultation sessions with a Cleveland Clinic Children's provider on a case-by-case basis. Individual consultation may be recommended when:
- There are complicating factors that are difficult to address in a group setting
- Difficulties persist despite successful completion of a service (completion is defined as at least 80% attendance of scheduled sessions and consistent home practice)
If it has been one to two years since you last participated in an ACET service, the clinician may request that you complete a new ACET Treatment Intake to obtain updated information about your child’s educational, family and social functioning.
