Physical & Occupational Therapy
Physical therapy
Healthplex treats orthopaedic, neurological, and chronic pain conditions with personalized rehabilitation programs in a private, comfortable setting. Our compassionate physical therapists customize programs using modern equipment and the latest techniques to ensure the best possible care for each and every patient. Patients can begin therapy more quickly in some cases with our aqua therapy pool which enables them to move with less discomfort and recover faster. In addition, we promote patient education and teach self-management practices to help prevent future injuries.
Occupational therapy
Following an illness or injury, our occupational therapists work together to help the patient return to normal daily living. Our program accommodates patients with orthopedic and neurological conditions affecting their arms and hands as well as those affected by stroke or brain injury.
Sports Medicine
At Healthplex, we take a team approach to sports medicine with physicians, therapists and certified athletic trainers working together to prevent injury, formulate treatment plans and create programs to heal an injury or promote surgical recovery. We also offer certified athletic training services to area high school sports programs and athletes. Using a variety of machines, equipment, and programs, we can improve athlete performance through proven evaluation and enhancement techniques.
Specialized Treatments
We offer several treatment programs that address individualized life issues such as work injuries, speech therapy, pediatric rehabilitation, and long-term health maintenance.
Speech therapy
Speech therapists specialize in treating swallowing and communication disorders.
Pediatric rehabilitation
Infants, toddlers, and children of all ages sometimes require special care and attention. Our team of physical therapists can treat children with orthopaedic and neurological injuries.
Vertigo/dizziness therapy
Problems with the inner ear can trigger debilitating dizziness. Often, these problems can be fixed or improved with vestibular rehabilitation. One of the most common causes of dizziness in adults is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, simply known as BPPV. This condition is caused by debris or “ear rocks” that have become displaced and collect in the canals of the inner ear.
Treatment for BPPV is available at the HealthPlex. It includes moving the patient’s head in a series of movements to reposition the displaced ear rocks to their rightful positions. Normally, this condition can be corrected in two treatments or less by a trained therapist.
Work injury rehabilitation
Workplace reconditioning, functional capacity evaluation, ergonomics training, and consultation help patients regain and maintain the skills necessary to keep them productive in the workplace.
Long-term health maintenance
After completing your therapy, Union Hospital invites you to continue your self-directed exercise program at the HealthPlex. We offer state-of-the-art equipment and a supportive environment that will help you continue the positive lifestyle changes that have been incorporated into your recovery.
Cost for joining our program is $25 and you can bring your spouse or exercise partner for an additional $20. Our hours are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 7:30 a.m. to Noon. We are closed on Sunday. For more information, call Dave Watkins at 330.602.0719, ext. 2370.
Women’s health
Our team of therapists are specially trained to treat women's distinctive needs. Our expertise includes incontinence, pelvic/vaginal pain, prenatal and postpartum musculoskeletal pain, osteoporosis and breast surgery post-op pain.
Chronic pain management
We understand that chronic pain is a challenging condition. Our goal is to help patients gain relief from chronic pain while increasing their level of physical ability. We offer stretching and strengthening exercises, massage, and other therapies, which can improve range of motion and help break the chronic pain cycle.
Temporomandibular disorders (TMD)
Therapists treat conditions affecting the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Conditions may include post-operative pain, disc derangement, hypo or hypermobility, poor posture, and associated headaches.
yUHr Move!
yUHr Move! is an exercise program designed to improve flexibility, endurance, balance, and strength in individuals with movement disorders (Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, stroke, etc.). Physical therapists at Healthplex lead this active exercise class.
Exercises performed during yUHr Move! are tailored to the complexity of each person's limitations.
Thanks to the Movers and Shakers Against Parkinson’s Disease, the yUHr Move! program is offered free of charge to participants.
