Cleveland Clinic's Department of Vascular Surgery performs more than 5,000 procedures annually for patients with a broad spectrum of vascular diseases at three inpatient, seven outpatient and four ambulatory surgery facilities. Our experts are national and international leaders in treating aneurismal disease of the thoracic and abdominal aorta, occlusive disease in the cerebrovascular circulation via both open and endovascular methods and the provision of dialysis access and minimally invasive treatments for venous disease. Our staff provides dialysis access to allow those individuals with end-stage renal disease to begin treatment. Many patients are also treated for cerebrovascular disease to reduce the risk of stroke.
Much of our experience is in re-operative surgery for patients whose original operations have been performed elsewhere, and the department serves as a major referral center for these and other difficult cases throughout Ohio and the surrounding states of Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Acting in close cooperation with the Section of Vascular Medicine (within the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine), cardiologists and radiologists, the Department of Vascular Surgery provides comprehensive services for all types of peripheral vascular disorders, including the new technology of catheter-based intervention as well as traditional surgical treatment for aneurysms and obstructive arterial disease.
The Department of Vascular Surgery conducts one of the largest post-graduate training programs in vascular surgery in the United States, and our academic work has been published in scientific journals throughout the world. Although the enormous volume of our activity is the hallmark of the department, we are proud that our reputation has been established one patient at a time.
While nearly one-third of our services are currently performed to treat those with atherosclerosis, we also provide a significant number of patients with care for aneurysms of the abdominal and thoracic aortas, and in increasing numbers, for those with venous disease. Our staff also provides dialysis for individuals with end-stage renal disease. Many patients are also treated for cerebrovascular disease to reduce the risk of stroke.
In addition to Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus, our staff also provides care in many neighboring locations throughout Northeast Ohio.
