Overview

Overview

The members of the neurocritical care and endovascular sections of the Cerebrovascular Center are interested in the management of subarachnoid hemorrhage, in particular, prevention and treatment of vasospasm. A major effort of this group, led by Dr. Joao Gomes, is a prospective study to understand the role of heme-iron and its metabolites in cerebrospinal fluid as the cause of oxidative damage and vasospasm. Other studies include investigating intraventricular milrinone as a treatment for vasospasm and operational studies to understand how early mobilization in the ICU can improve long-term outcomes after subarachnoid hemorrhage.
