Cerebrovascular Research Programs

The Cerebrovascular Center has high and complex stroke-related patient volumes, and is an active participant in research to understand and improve stroke and cerebrovascular outcomes in patients. Research at the center focuses on understanding several types of cerebrovascular disorders including ischemic stroke, intracranial aneurysms, vascular malformations, and subarachnoid and intracerebral hemorrhage throughout the continuum of care from acute treatments to rehabilitation. The center was among the first in the United States to start a mobile stroke unit for pre-hospital stroke treatment allowing us to better study efficiency of care, patient outcomes, and health economics of this novel method of stroke treatment. Our other interests also include new device technology, applying new imaging techniques including MRI and CT to understand causes of stroke and outcomes after therapy, and multimodal monitoring of critically ill neurological patients.
