Overview

Student life at CCLCM is not an oxymoron: While our students are busy learning to become physician investigators, they round out their medical school experience with activities inside and outside the college.
Participating in Academic and Social Groups
Many students involve themselves in academic and social groups, from the Student National Medical Association to the Internal Medicine Special Interest Group.
Helping Those in Need
Working on the Community Health Initiative allows students to offer firsthand help to medically underserved people.
Exploring Creative Opportunities
And participating in the annual Doc Opera show gives students a chance to stretch their creative muscles while raising money for the Student Run Health Clinic.
Student Community and Engagement
As Assistant Dean, Monica Yepes-Rios, MD, works with the Office of the Dean to:
- set strategic plans for creating a welcoming learning environment
- ensure mentoring resources are available for all students
- build a research and medical education curriculum that represents care of all communities
- train our students to provide excellent and culturally sensitive care to all their patients
The Office of Student Community and Engagement also supports multicultural events to celebrate the richness of our student body. Monthly student dinners explore cultural heritages through culinary delights and presentations from students, who share the intersection of their upbringing, family traditions, demographics and unique personal and professional journeys. In this informal setting, students learn to be sensitive to the care of patients from all backgrounds, celebrate differences and appreciate every patient’s unique healthcare needs.
We invite you to learn more about Student Community and Engagement and discover how our faculty and students are working together to build a solid culture of belonging, both inside the walls of CCLCM and out in the community.
Please contact our office at 216.444.2414 with any questions.
Thinking about applying?
We invite you to contact our Office of Admissions with any questions you might have. Our Director of Admissions and Recruitment, Jazmine Oliver, MD ('12), oversees student recruitment to help ensure that CCLCM continues to train students from the widest variety of backgrounds who demonstrate a passion for scientific inquiry, patient care and equal access to healthcare for all. Dr. Oliver also helps connect students with mentors and career advisors; supports students through their medical school and residency journeys; and encourages student involvement in various enterprise and community initiatives.
