Completion of all core clerkships. Open to 4th year senior medical students.
Objectives
To provide the student with a basic introduction to the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal system disorders.
Description
The medical student is instructed in the examination, diagnosis and initial management of patients with musculoskeletal injury and disease. Teaching settings include the clinic for orthopaedic sports medicine. Areas of exposure can be modified according to the students’ interests, and may include general orthopaedics, adult reconstruction, sports medicine, foot & ankle, upper extremity, podiatry, emergency-trauma, etc.
The student is expected to attend conferences supplementing their rotation, such as Cleveland Clinic in Florida Grand Rounds and Orthopaedic Clinical Conferences. The student will be expected to present a case study on an orthopaedic subject of interest.
Evaluation
Evaluations will be distributed by the UME department to the preceptor at the end of the rotation.
