Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center is dedicated to providing exceptional care and support to individuals with cancer. More than 400 cancer specialists, nurses and technicians work together to best meet your unique needs. Cleveland Clinic is recognized in the U.S. and throughout the world for its expertise and care.

A Team Approach

Our physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs) and nurses involved in treating multiple myeloma and related disorders meet regularly to discuss each patient’s diagnosis, plan, and clinical progress, and to make decisions. These decisions include whether or not to recommend stem cell transplantation or a change in a patient’s treatment. This means that patients treated at Cleveland Clinic receive the input of the entire team. We will take into consideration your goals and your desire for quality of life as well as length of life. You can be assured you will receive the most advanced, most patient-friendly treatment possible.

Since multiple myeloma may affect a number of organs, our program includes a multidisciplinary team of specialists who treat all aspects of the disease. These specialists are from the fields of:

  • Medical Oncology.
  • Orthopaedics.
  • Cardiology.
  • Neurology.
  • Nephrology.
  • Radiation Oncology.
  • Palliative Medicine.
  • Infectious Disease.
  • Social Work.
  • Physical Medicine.
  • Rehabilitation.

For patients living with multiple myeloma, there are many things to be considered such as age, the amount and location of the disease, and the individual’s goals for care. At Cleveland Clinic, the Cancer Center’s team of specialists explores all options and tailors the most appropriate plan for each patient with multiple myeloma – offering the greatest chance of achieving disease remission and living a long and healthy life.

Support & Services

Support & Services

In addition to offering state of the art diagnostic techniques and multiple myeloma treatment methods, our specialists also offer an array of resources that can help patients cope with the demands of cancer. Patients are encouraged to take advantage of these resources to ease the burden of managing cancer.

Multiple Myeloma Program Support/Education Group

A diagnosis of multiple myeloma elicits a profound emotional response in patients and family members. Many feelings arise, such as denial, depression, hopelessness, and fear. Questions about the disease and treatments contribute to the emotional distress. Our support program can provide answers to many of your questions and in turn can help you cope. The main objective is to educate patients and families; we believe that a better educated patient will have a better quality of life and be able to make informed decisions. At meetings, expert speakers discuss a variety of issues; exercise and physical therapy, managing fatigue, nutrition and much more. The group also aims to increase the community’s awareness of the disease and the importance of early detection.

Facilities Second to None

If you have multiple myeloma or amyloidosis and need a stem cell or Bone Marrow Transplant, there’s a chance you will need to spend a few days to a few weeks in the hospital. We make every effort to make our hospital feel like your home away from home, so the experience will be as comfortable as possible. Our two dedicated 22-bed units are designed to meet the unique clinical and emotional needs of stem cell or bone marrow transplant patients.

In addition to our bone marrow transplant service, we offer a dedicated lymphoid malignancy and myeloma inpatient unit at the main campus. This unit offers specialized treatment, staff dedication and expertise in the treatment of lymphoma and multiple myeloma.

Clinical Trials & Research

Clinical Trials & Research

Many clinical trials of new treatments or combinations of treatments are available for patients with multiple myeloma. If your physician feels you might benefit from participating in a multiple myeloma clinical trial, the options will be discussed with you in detail.
