» Nation’s No.1-Ranked Urology Program to Offer Services in Las Vegas in Mid-April through Acquisition of Private Urology Practice

February 21, 2013

Cleveland Clinic’s Glickman Urological & Kidney Institute will begin offering urology services in Las Vegas in mid-April.

» Institute Performs First Pediatric Robotic Partial Nephrectomy in Northeast Ohio

In December 2012, physicians in Glickman Urological & Kidney Institute's Centers for Pediatric Urology and Robotic & Laparoscopic Surgery collaborated to perform the first robotic partial nephrectomy in a pediatric patient.

The pediatric urology team determined that the 9-year-old patient was an ideal candidate for robotic-assisted surgery. The surgical procedure to remove the lesion on the patient's left kidney was minimally invasive. Some of the benefits of performing minimally invasive surgery with the use of a surgical robot include decreased length of stay at the hospital, faster recovery, reduced pain after surgery, and quicker return to daily activities.

Currently, only a few hospitals in the country use robotic technology for pediatric urology cases. Glickman's Center for Pediatric Urology has performed robotic pyeloplasty, upper pole heminephrectomy and partial nephrectomy.

Glickman's urology program provides state-of-the-art patient care through a unique partnership between Centers of Excellence within the institute. Cleveland Clinic is one of the world leaders in robotic technology and many minimally invasive procedures were pioneered by our physicians. Additionally, our urology program is ranked No.1 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

» Glickman Now Offering Home Sperm Banking Services

Our NextGenSM home sperm banking program allows patients to collect semen samples in the privacy of their home, rather than coming to a fertility lab. Through this novel approach, specimens are shipped in a specially designed chamber to the Cleveland Clinic Andrology Laboratory and Reproductive Tissue Bank. The NextGenSM Home Sperm Banking kit provides patients a safe and reliable process to store semen samples and preserve their fertility for future.
