Biography

About Alex Mejia Garcia, MD

Dr. Alex Mejia Garcia is a specialist who works at the Scully-Welsh Cancer Center located at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital. He specializes in treating blood cancers such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia, lymphomas, and multiple myeloma. At Scully Welsh Cancer Center, he holds the position of Director of Hematology and Clinical Research.

Dr. Mejia Garcia completed his hematology-oncology fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia before pursuing a fellowship in cancer drug development at UT Health San Antonio MD-Mays Anderson Cancer Center in San Antonio, Texas. He then directed the early-stage drug development program for blood cancers at that institution. Later, he joined the Department of Hematology & Medical Oncology at Cleveland Clinic-Taussig Cancer Institute in Cleveland, Ohio. His clinical and research focus has been on lymphomas and multiple myeloma.

Dr. Mejia Garcia has been the principal investigator in several national clinical trials and industry-sponsored trials for new lymphoma drugs. His research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications, including Clinical Cancer Research, Cancer Chemotherapy and Pharmacology, the European Journal of Cancer, Cancer, and the Journal of Clinical Medicine Research.

 Dr. Mejia Garcia follows a holistic, team-oriented, and patient-centered approach to cancer treatment. He takes into account not only the disease state, but also each person’s overall health, social support network, culture, and treatment goals. Dr. Mejia Garcia uses the latest cancer research to provide the best possible treatment options for each patient. He is passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of his patients and their families. Dr. Mejia Garcia focuses on helping patients understand their disease and treatment options while developing skills that will bring them greater success in their journey by reducing fear, anxiety, and stress.
