Cancer Treatment Guides

Bladder Cancer

Bladder cancer is a disease in which an abnormal uncontrolled growth of cells (tumor) is found in the tissues of the bladder. Bladder cancers can form in many locations in and around the bladder and the cancer cells can penetrate through the different layers of the bladder wall. The deeper the invasion, the more likely the cancer cells can spread to other organs.

Cleveland Clinic bladder cancer specialists tailor bladder cancer treatment plans to their patients’ needs. This guide provides an overview of the bladder cancer treatment options offered at Cleveland Clinic.

Gamma Knife

The word “inoperable” now applies to far fewer brain tumors. Gamma Knife radiosurgery is one of the most advanced and minimally invasive options for brain tumor treatment. For many patients, the Gamma Knife can target and reduce tumors and lesions deep within the brain with pinpoint accuracy that can’t be matched by traditional surgery. Since it is an outpatient procedure with no incisions necessary, Gamma Knife patients also benefit from reduced treatment and recovery time.

Head & Neck Cancer

Head and neck cancers occur in the head or neck region, such as in the nasal cavity, sinuses, lips, mouth, salivary glands, throat or larynx (voice box). These cancers frequently spread to the lymph nodes of the neck and this is often the first, sometimes the only, manifestation of the disease at the time of diagnosis.

Head and neck cancers are locally aggressive, with patients often developing a second primary tumor. When detected early, head and neck cancer is highly curable, usually with some form of surgery, although chemotherapy and radiation therapy sometimes play an important role.

Melanoma
Cleveland Clinic | Melanoma Treatment Guide

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. More than 2 million people are treated annually for two types of skin cancers: basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. A third type of skin cancer, melanoma, is one of the most dangerous and the number of new cases diagnosed each year is on the rise.

At Cleveland Clinic’s Melanoma Program, the multidisciplinary team of pathologists, dermatologists, surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, as well as others works together to develop the optimal treatment plan for each patient. This means that in addition to recommending a treatment most likely to result in a cure, they consider the option that will have the least effect on important body functions and appearance.
