Residency Details
Children’s Hospital Resident Experience
Children’s Hospital is a “hospital within a hospital,” providing access to the vast resources available at Cleveland Clinic, one of the top four medical centers in the United States. The majority of our pediatric residency program’s educational experiences take place at the Children’s Hospital on our Main Campus.
- Pediatric and neonatal intensive care units are staffed 24 hours a day with senior in-house staff who teach and assist residents in patient management.
- Access to large volumes of primary general pediatric care through two affiliated community hospitals, which complements the tertiary care, subspecialty practices on Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus.
- Freestanding children’s rehabilitation hospital, one of only four in the United States, includes a pediatric dialysis unit; programs at the rehabilitation hospital include developmental pediatrics, a feeding disorders clinic, and a chronic pain management unit.
- A Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Children’s Hospital that complements existing Level III nurseries located in community hospitals that are part of the Cleveland Clinic Health System.
- Residents teach and supervise students on third-year core pediatric rotations, as well as students from Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and the Case Western Reserve University Medical School on fourth-year electives and acting internships.
- Pediatric training on teaching and giving feedback through conferences and annual retreats.
- Research experience, basic training in biostatistics as well as a detailed curriculum in the critical analysis of medical literature (including research methodology and biostatistics).
- Opportunity to present research each year at our Annual Pediatric Research Day, with cash prizes awarded for the best projects.
What differentiates our pediatric residency program from others is a strong outpatient experience in both general and subspecialty pediatrics, with one-on-one staff teaching the rule rather than the exception. We invite you to compare our program to others, and encourage you to visit us and do an elective here so you can see the advantages of our system firsthand.
Residency Tracks and Subspecialty Fellowships
In addition to our categorical pediatric residency program, we offer positions in our five-year combined pediatrics/pediatric neurology program, and consider interested applicants for one year of preliminary pediatric transitional training in pediatric dermatology offered at Cleveland Clinic.
Advanced fellowship training in neonatology, allergy/immunology, pediatric infectious diseases, pediatric gastroenterology, pediatric neurology, pediatric endocrinology, and pediatric hematology/oncology.
