About Maria & Sam Miller
Sam and Maria Miller have been a vital part of Cleveland Clinic for over two decades. As a member of the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee from 1991 to 1996, Mr. Miller has played a prominent role in the institution’s growth and development, contributing his wisdom and business acumen, serving now as a Director of the Board of Trustees. Mrs. Miller has chaired “An Evening with Scott Hamilton and Friends,” which raises money for cancer research and education programs, since the event began in 1999.
The Millers’ love for the Cleveland community is reflected in their support of Cleveland Clinic. Their donation establishing The Maria and Sam Miller Emergency Services Building has had a monumental impact on patient care. “Maria and I believe that a gift to The Cleveland Clinic is a gift to the people of the city of Cleveland,” said Mr. Miller, who is co-chairman of Forest City Enterprises Inc. “The future of this city is tied to the hospital systems throughout our region. Cleveland will eventually become the number one medical center in the United States of America.”
In 2006, the Millers were inducted into The 1921 Society that honors those whose cumulative lifetime giving to Cleveland Clinic totals $1 million or more. Thanks to the Millers’ benevolence, Cleveland Clinic’s future is brighter than ever. Their support of the Taussig Cancer Institute, Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute, Digestive Disease and Surgery Institute, Emergency Services Building, and many other programs will continue to advance medicine, research, and education. Because of their establishment of The Maria and Sam Miller Awards, the organization’s most outstanding physicians, nurses, and police officers are being rewarded for their work on behalf of Cleveland Clinic’s mission. Additionally, they have established the Maria and Sam Miller Nursing Excellence Awards to recognize the dedication of nurses across the Cleveland Clinic enterprise.
In gratitude for his deep devotion to Cleveland Clinic, the Board of Trustees has bestowed upon Mr. Miller the institution’s highest honor: the designation of Distinguished Fellow. This honor is conferred upon individuals who have made extraordinary contributions of service and resources to further the mission of Cleveland Clinic.
