Why is good health important to you?

I enjoy being active for both overall health as well as managing stress and performing at my best. I want to put the foundation in place to ensure I can continue to enjoy activities with my family and young children.

Why Cleveland Clinic Canada?

I believe that Cleveland Clinic Canada has made me more in tune with my own health as I get older and the holistic impact of my mental, physical and spiritual states. The clinic treats me as a whole person; they are not just focused on my physical well-being. From the moment I arrive at the clinic the morning of my appointment, this treatment is reflected in how the team is very attentive to me and my needs. Despite the number of clients they see, I feel like the team at Cleveland Clinic Canada make an effort to meet my needs personally in a friendly, approachable way. Even if the smallest concern is raised, the doctor and nurses actively listen and offer solutions or next steps. Bottom line is that I feel like the team really cares about my personal health and feels invested in my well-being into the future.

What is the one thing that you feel people need to know about Cleveland Clinic Canada?

Cleveland Clinic Canada’s Executive Health program stands out in comparison with others for several reasons. Firstly, the facilities themselves are state of the art and well maintained and the team makes every effort to ensure patients are comfortable. It’s a long day but services such as the top-notch food and drink and the facilities make the day more manageable. I also appreciate that the physicians and team make every effort to keep you moving throughout the day so the wait is minimal. The second differentiator for me personally has been the priority attention to my health and quick escalation where warranted. Last year, I had a spot on my face that was quickly tested and remedied with an amazing surgeon at Women’s Hospital. The immediate escalation eliminated months of worry and I was so appreciative of the referral by the doctor to dermatology and the subsequent follow through that could have taken months and caused me additional stress and anxiety.

How do you manage stress?

I enjoy yoga, working out, golf and scrapbooking, but my greatest love is time with my family to assist in managing my stress and keeping me focused. I also feel that it’s essential to try and find space during the day – a few quiet moments to refocus and clear my mind to ensure I’m at my best. I don’t believe in work-life balance – it’s a ‘blend’. How I manage and juggle the life demands with thankfulness rather than stress greatly impacts my performance.

What is your personal health philosophy?

I try to “be present” in every moment – something very difficult for me to always do but I try my best to get better each day. This means taking the moments to get quiet and act with mindfulness. My brain is constantly running at a very fast pace and it takes considerable effort to create the space that allows me to focus.
