Biography

About Timothy Gilligan, MD

Timothy Gilligan, MD, is a Medical Oncologist at Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus in Cleveland, Ohio. He is board-certified in medical oncology and specializes in cancers of the testicles, bladder, prostate and kidneys. Dr. Gilligan is one of the two section editors for Testis Cancer for UpToDate and chairs the Testis Cancer guideline panel for the National Cooperative Cancer Network. Dr. Gilligan is vice-Chair for Education at the Taussig Cancer Institute and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer for the Cleveland Clinic's Graduate Medical Education Council. Previously, he served as co-Director of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Excellence in Healthcare Communication where he taught communication skills, trainsed others to teach communication skills and provided physician coaching. He is currently President-Elect of the Academy of Communication in Healthcare. For ten years, Dr. Gilligan served as Program Director of the Cleveland Clinic's Hematology-Oncology Fellowship. He has published numerous original scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, has written dozens of review articles and book chapters and has given dozens of lectures on genitourinary cancers and biomedical ethics. He has written and edited treatment guidelines and cancer-information summaries for national and international organizations, including the National Cancer Institute, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and UpToDate.

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education.
