Biography

About Jonathan Schaffer, MD, MBA

Jonathan Schaffer, MD, MBA, is Managing Director of eCleveland Clinic in the Information Technology Division of Cleveland Clinic and is on Staff in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery as a Joint and Reconstructive Orthopaedic Surgeon. He came from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, where he was also an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Schaffer's medical specialty interests include reconstruction of arthritic knees, including joint replacement, the treatment of arthrofibrosis after total knee replacement and the use of arthroscopic methods to treat arthritic knees. His research interests include perioperative pain management, the integration of multimedia object-oriented databases in patient outcomes research, the biological effects of new surgical techniques, specifically lasers, and minimally invasive surgery.

A presenter at numerous regional, national and international courses, Dr. Schaffer is also the author of more than 85 articles, book chapters and books, and has developed a number of multimedia programs and computer software applications. He was named to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and has received many awards for medical Website development.

He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and is a member of the American College of Physician Executives, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the American Medical Informatics Association.
