Ajay Gupta, M.D. is the head of the section of Pediatric Epilepsy in the Epilepsy Center/Neurological Institute. He is Professorat The Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University. He is also the founder director of multidisciplinary Tuberous Sclerosis Program at the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Gupta is an expert in the field of childhood and adolescent epilepsy with emphasis on epilepsy surgery evaluation,management of complex childhood epilepsies, and neurocutaneous disorders such as Tuberous Sclerosis Complex and Sturge-Weber syndrome. Dr. Gupta is also a skilled specialist in intra-operative neurophysiological techniques used during brain surgery to map regions of brain for critical function. His expertise attracts national and international consultations from families and practicing Neurologists who seek a second opinion for complex cases. Dr. Gupta is recognized by the Consumers' Research Council's 'Top Physicians' ofAmerica", Marquis’ "Who's Who in America", and the “Best Doctors in America”.
Dr. Gupta serves on the professional and scientific committees of the American Epilepsy Society, Child Neurology Society, and International League against Epilepsy. He serves on the editorial board of prestigious journals in the field, ‘Pediatric Neurology’ and Epilepsy Currents’. Dr. Gupta also works on the Professional and Scientific Board of the U.S. Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance. He serves on the peer-review panel of national and international journals in the field of epilepsy. He is a fellowmember of the American Academy of Neurology, American Epilepsy Society, Child Neurology Society, International Child Neurology Association, and American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Gupta has made innovative and pioneering contributions to advance the field of epilepsy surgery and treatment of epilepsy in children. A unique disease is named after him as a co-discoverer. His research interests are epilepsy surgery evaluation tools and outcomes, Tuberous Sclerosis Complex, and impact of epilepsy on brain development. He has authored over 150 original research articles, review papers in the peer-reviewed international journals, as well as textbooks. He is an avid mentor of residentand fellow trainees including visiting international fellows and junior faculty. Some of the trainees have received highly competitive awards and honors for their mentored research projects such as the Junior Investigator Research Awards at the American Epilepsy Society and Child Neurology Society, and Thomas Epilepsy award at the Cleveland Clinic Neuroscience Research competition. Many traineescurrently hold faculty positions at prestigious universities and hospitals in US and abroad. Dr. Gupta has also organized, chaired and directed many symposia, workshops, and seminars at the scientific national and international conferences. He is the Director of the annual Epilepsy Course organized at the Cleveland Clinic. He is an invited faculty to many national and international meetings to deliver lectures, workshops and skills training.
