Biography

About Joseph Tramer, MD

Joe Tramer MD specializes in both the nonoperative and operative treatment of knee, shoulder and elbow injuries in patients of all ages and levels of activity. Dr. Tramer's priority is getting patients back to activity and out of pain without surgery, but when all else fails he has advanced training in both arthroscopic and open techniques to restore anatomy and function. 

Dr. Tramer is a Northeast Ohio native who was born and raised in Beachwood. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and attended medical school at Northeast Ohio Medical University. He completed residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI where he gained early exposure caring for athletes including assisting in care of the Detroit Pistons and Detroit City FC. Following residency he completed the orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, serving as a team physician for an area high school, junior college, Stanford Cardinal Athletics, the San Jose Earthquakes and Oakland Athletics. 

Dr. Tramer has also authored numerous publications, earning recognition as an ASES Neer Award finalist and AOSSM O’Donoghue Sports Injury Research Award winner. His research focuses on safe return to athletic participation following injury, pain control after surgery and outcomes of orthopaedic procedures. He has also contributed a number of technique videos demonstrating advanced techniques in arthroscopic and open surgery. 

In his free time Dr. Tramer enjoys running, being outdoors and spending time with his wife and two sons.

Facility a little woren, patient flow seemed quick and knowledgeable. Dr Tramer understood my reason for a second opinion and my desire to not want a knee replacement. His willingness to treat with a step by step plan. I will reschedule with Dr Tramer.
